PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with its 9-0 sweep over St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) at home on Saturday.
With the win, the Panthers moved to 6-3 overall and even .500 (1-1) in Skyline Conference action. The visiting Golden Eagles dropped to 2-6, 1-2 in defeat.
It was a quick sweep of doubles as the Panthers only dropped four games total between all three spots.
Oliver Culliton (SO/Boston, MA) and
Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) broke the scoring ice with an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Ben Joory (SR/Port Washington, NY) and
Yuta Kawamura (FR/Greenwich, CT) were next in line to finish, recording an 8-2 triumph at No. 2, followed by
Julian Szuper's (5th/New York, NY) and
Eli Palagatshev's (FR/Yonkers, NY) 8-1 win at the top spot.
Purchase kept its momentum going in singles play, netting perfect scores in seven of the 12 games. Culliton notched the first, a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory at the No. 6 position. Szuper earned the deciding point for the match following a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot.
In order of finishes, Palagatshev, Joory, Mains and Kawamura rounded out the scoring with wins at second, fourth, fifth and third signles, respectively.
Purchase will return to its home courts on Tuesday (Apr. 11) at 4 p.m. for a Skyline match against neighboring Manhattanville College.
