PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College men's tennis saw its three-match winning streak snapped Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to neighboring and Skyline Conference foe Manhattanville College.
In defeat, the Panthers dropped to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in Skyline play. The visiting Valiants improved to 5-4 overall and remain undefeated in the league, 4-0.
Doubles was a seesaw battle that saw notable performances and game-wins from both teams. Manhattanville, however, came out on top across the trio of matchups and held a 3-0 lead to start singles play.
Senior Valiant Dylan Crowley recorded the first win in singles, a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Purchase sophomore
Oliver Culliton (Boston, MA) at the No. 5 spot. Jaime Peredo followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against
Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) at the sixth position, notching the deciding point and securing the win for Manhattanville.
In order of finish—fourth, second, third and first singles rounded out the afternoon's scoring. Purchase collected wins at the top two positions.
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) battled to a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at No. 1, while
Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY) notched a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Purchase looks to get back to its winning ways this Saturday at Sarah Lawrence College. The Skyline matchup between the Panthers and host Gryphons is slated for noon.
