PURCHASE, N.Y. – Bouncing back from Tuesday's loss, the Purchase men's tennis team swept past Sarah Lawrence, 9-0, at SLC courts Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers advance to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the Skyline with the win, while the Gryphons drop to 1-6, 0-5.
Sophomores
Steve Mains (Mount Kisco, NY) and
Oliver Culliton (Boston, MA) broke the scoring ice with an 8-1 win at third doubles.
Ben Joory (SR/Port Washington, NY) and
Yuta Kawamura (FR/Greenwich, CT) teamed up for an 8-0 sweep of the No. 2 spot, and
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and
Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY) rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-1 finish at the top position.
Singles competition followed a similar script, with the Panthers winning comfortably at all six flights.
Cullerton collected the first singles point after defeating Aidan Roney, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. Panther newcomer SImon Bruce (FR/Gloversville, NY)—in a collegiate debut performance—recorded the deciding point to win the match following a 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.
Szuper (6-0, 6-1), Palagatshev (6-0, 6-0) and Kawamura (6-0, 6-2) picked up wins at first, second and third singles, respectively, for the complete shutout over the hosts.
No rest for Purchase as the team returns to action in less than 24 hours, playing host in a Skyline matchup against the Farmingdale State Rams at 3 p.m.
