PURCHASE, N.Y. – Less than 24 hours after its previous Skyline match, Purchase College returned to the courts to battle league powerhouse Farmingdale State College.
The visiting Rams however, had two days of rest and capitalized on that advantage, walking away from the Purchase courts on Sunday with a 9-0 victory.
Farmingdale (9-3, 4-1 SKY) set the tone early with a 3-0 lead coming out of doubles. Despite being tagged with the losses, the Panthers showed resilience and posted close scores across the board.
At the top spot,
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and
Eli Palagatshev (FR/Yonkers, NY) battled in an 8-5 decision.
Ben Joory (SR/Port Washington, NY) and
Yuta Kawamura (FR/Greenwich, CT) put up a fight at second doubles but fell short, 8-4, while sophomores
Oliver Culliton (Boston, MA) and
Steve Mains (Mount Kisco, NY) rounded out the doubles matches in an 8-2 loss.
At second and fifth singles, Palagatshev (6-4, 6-3) and Mains (6-4, 6-2), respectively, posted the closest scores but FSC kept its winning ways rolling en route to the 9-0 finish.
Purchase (7-5, 2-3 SKY) will look to bounce back in the upcoming road match against Mount Saint Mary College. The Skyline contest is slated for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
