Men's Volleyball Slips Past Yeshiva in Four Sets

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team earned a Skyline Conference win Thursday night, besting Yeshiva University in four sets.

Scores for the contest were 13-25, 25-7, 25-22 and 25-20.

With the win, the Panthers moved to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference. For the Maccabees, they dropped to 3-9 and 0-3, respectively.

After being beaten rather easily in set one to begin the evening, Purchase locked-in once the second frame began and rolled from there.

Set two saw the hosts tally numerous scoring rallies as they breezed to the frame win, while set three was a closer matchup before the Panthers pulled away late.

In the final stanza, Purchase used an early scoring run to create some breathing room, and managed to hold onto the lead to closeout the night.

For the game, the hosts recorded 39 kills and .103 hitting percentage as the squad improved each set. For Yeshiva, they tallied 29 kills and .063 hitting mark.

Individually, Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) powered the offense with 12 kills, four aces, a solo block and block assist.

Chris Posillico (SR/Saltaire, NY) and Luca Spadinger (FR/Loudonville, NY) finished with 10 kills and nine kills, respectively, while Idris Idris (SR/Bronx, NY) finished with a team-high 29 assists and 16 digs.

Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline Conference action, as the squad travels to Long Island for a tri-match with St. Josephs' University-Long Island and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Those contests are set to begin at 1 p.m. on March 11, and you can follow along right here.
