PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the final 15 minutes of regulation to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 14-9 win against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday.
Six different Panthers combined for the eight-goal run, while sophomore goalkeeper
Will Boes (Pleasantville, NY) and the PC defense limited the Dolphins to just two tallies in the fourth quarter. The collective effort landed Purchase (5-6, 1-1 SKY) in the Skyline Conference win column for the first time this season.
Mount Saint Vincent (4-6, 0-2 SKY) opened up the scoring with goals by Ryan Jean-Pharuns and Joseph Santana, respectively, before sophomore attackers
Andrew Agosto (Poughkeepsie, NY) and
Zach Collins (Victor, NY) netted back-to-back tallies for Purchase.
Mount tacked on a trio of goals over the final 8:26 of the half to stretch its advantage to 6-3 at the break.
Purchase fired back early in the third quarter with three goals to tie the game at 6-apiece.
Shakim Carr (FR/Brooklyn, NY) got things started with an unassisted tally at 8:50.
Kevon Joseph (FR/Brooklyn, NY) notched the second off the feed from
Angus Goldman (SR/{Palisades, NY), while Collins evened the score on a pass from
Joe Ely (SR/North Salem, NY) with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter. The Dolphins, however, took back the lead on the next faceoff to close the quarter out in front, 7-6.
From there, Purchase erupted with four unanswered goals to take its first lead of the game. Agosto took advantage of an early man-up opportunity, scoring the tying goal at 14:44. One minute later, Collins capped the man-up run and netted the game-winner on a dish from
Cristian Ishoo (5th/Tarrytown, NY). The Panthers outscored Mount 6-2 the rest of the way to secure the Skyline victory.
Agosto, Collins and Goldman led the Panther attack with three goals apiece. The hat trick performance was a career-first for Agosto, who also finished with a pair of ground balls. Goldman added two assists for a team-best five points to go along with six ground balls and one caused turnover. Carr finished the day with two goals, one assist, four ground balls and one caused turnover, while Ishoo and Ely chipped in with one goal and two assists each. Joseph rounded out the list of Panther scorers with one goal.
Boes (5-6) put together another stellar performance in goal, finishing the day with an impressive 18 saves for the win.
PC will return to action on Saturday (Apr. 15) as the Panthers head to Patchogue, N.Y. for a Skyline game against St. Joseph's University - L.I. Opening face-off is slated for 11 a.m.
