Panthers Fall at WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. - The Purchase College baseball team was defeated by Western Connecticut State University Wednesday afternoon, falling in the non-conference matchup by the score of 12-3.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 9-12 for the season. For the Wolves, the win pushed them to 4-22.

WestConn opened the contest by tallying six runs over the first two innings, en route to scoring 11 of the first 12 runs total.

For Purchase, the guests got on the board in the third inning when Liam Daly (FR/Babylon, NY) hit an RBI-single up the middle.

The Blue and Orange then drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth from Trevor Zanderzuk (JR/Manorville, NY), before Matt Castrogiovanni (FR/Massapequa Park, NY) slapped an RBI-single in the seventh frame to give them their runs on the day.

The Panthers finished with eight hits overall, as Daly and Patrick Reyes (FR/Plainedge, NY) each recorded two apiece.

On the mound, Purchase used eight pitchers in the loss.

Starter Jonathan Uzzo (FR/Bethpage, NY) was tagged with the defeat after allowing two runs in one inning of work.

The trio of Bryan Atkinson (JR/Emerson, NJ), Drew Stabinsky (JR/Floral Park, NY) and KJ Dow (FR/East Northport, NY) combined for 3 1/3 innings of shutout baseball in the effort.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team hosts St. Joseph's University-Long Island for a doubleheader on April 15. First pitch of game one is set for 11 a.m.
