PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College softball saw its three-game winning streak come to an end in a Skyline Conference setback Sunday afternoon at home. The Panthers dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 15-0 and 8-0, to league powerhouse College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Starting pitchers Charlotte Kelly (3-1) and Savannah Autobee (3-3) combined for 13 strikeouts to lead Mount (17-6, 6-0 SKY) in the pair of 5-inning contests. The team's offense also put in work at the plate, finishing the day with 21 hits and seven stolen bases.
In game one, Dolphin senior Katie Hutter opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to left center field. The visitors erupted with another seven runs in the second frame to open up an 8-0 lead.
Despite holding Mount scoreless over the next three innings, Purchase struggled offensively and was later tagged with the run-rule loss.
Game two played out in a similar way with the Dolphins scoring early and often to put the game out of reach from the hosts.
Rebecca Bronzi (SO/Lagrangeville, NY),
Kelly Jennings (FR/Yorktown Heights, NY) and
Jade D'Errico (SO/Wantagh, NY) recorded the only three hits for Purchase (4-11, 2-4 SKY) in game one. Bronzi connected again in game two along with
Brianna Palermo (Hyde Park, NY) and
Julia Marsala (JR/Shoreham, NY). Tossing her third and fourth games in two days, senior pitcher
Tara Sasso (North Rockland, NY) was tagged with both losses.
Up next, Purchase will take a short break from Skyline competition to play a rescheduled non-conference contest against Lehman College. The Panthers will travel to the Bronx on Wednesday to battle the Lightning in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
