PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Purchase College softball team dropped both ends of a Skyline Conference doubleheader to St. Joseph's University (LI.) on Friday night, 11-4 and 9-0 (5 inn.)
Purchase (4-13, 2-6 SKY) scored the first runs of the day in the top of the first inning but St. Joe's (3-17, 2-6 SKY) doubled that run count in the bottom half of the frame to lead 4-2.

Alexandria Perez (Bronx, NY) broke open the scoring on a sacrifice bunt that resulted in a Golden Eagle defensive error that brought
Brianna Palermo (SR/Hyde Park, NY) across home plate. Perez then stole second and came around to score (2-0) on a
Rebecca Bronzi (SO/Lagrangeville, NY) RBI single to center field.
The Panthers went scoreless in the second and third inning before batting in a pair of runs on three hits and one error in the top of the fourth. D'Errico,
Tara Sasso (SR/North Rockland, NY) and
Kelly Jennings (FR/Yorktown Heights, NY) recorded one hit apiece in the frame. Jennings tallied the lone RBI; a single to center that drove pinch runner
Julia Marsala (JR/Shoreham, NY) in from third base.
The Golden Eagles stretched its 6-4 advantage to 10-4 in the bottom of the fourth frame and never looked back.
In defeat, Sasso struck out three while walking six and allowed 11 runs (6 earned) off 13 hits.
SJU junior Julia Ruocchio went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. In the circle, she earned her first win of the season allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts
The Golden Eagle bats continued to connect throughout game two, while Ruocchio returned to the circle to record her first shutout victory of the season. The junior ace allowed just four hits, while striking out seven over five innings of work.
For Purchase, Sasso went 2.2 innings of 11-hit, 7-run softball. She walked two and struck out three of the 21 batters faced and would later pick up the loss for game two. Palermo tossed the final 1.1 innings, fanning one and giving up two runs off one hit and one walk.
Palermo and Jennings produced one hit each, while Perez paced the Panthers with a 2-for-3 at the plate. Jennings, Perez and Bronzi swiped one base apiece.
The Panthers are back at it on Sunday as they head to Fordham's Bahoshy Field to take on Yeshiva University in a league doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
