Game One: Purchase 4, Old Westbury 0 (7 inn)
Starting pitcher
Myles Scarry (JR/Levittown, NY) was the story of game one, as he tossed a two-hit complete game for the Blue and Orange.
Over seven innings of work, the ace fanned eight batters and walked just two. The outing was Myles' third complete game in five starts this season.
In the bottom of the third, Scarry battled his way out of a tough spot by striking out two batters with runners on second and third to keep the shutout intact.
At the plate, the Panthers tallied four runs on nine hits but were held off the board until the fifth inning.
During the frame, the guests loaded the bases with one out, before
Mason Compton (SO/Carmel, NY) hit into a fielder's choice, scoringÂ
Jemal Betances (SR/Bronx, NY) for the eventual winning run.
After a walk re-loaded the bases for Purchase,
Patrick Reyes (FR/Plainedge, NY) drew a second-straight walk to score the second run of the inning, pushing the lead to 2-0.
One inning later, Compton hit an RBI-single to extend the lead, before Betances hit an RBI-groundout to score the fourth and final run in the top of the seventh.
Individually,
Liam Daly (FR/Babylon, NY) and
Matt Castrogiovanni (FR/Masspequa Park, NY) each finished with a pair of hits.Â
Game Two: Purchase 7, Old Westbury 3
Following the relatively tame outing in first contest, the Panthers' offense bounced back with seven runs on 10 hits to cruise to victory in game two.
The first run came in the third inning via an RBI-groundout from Castrgiovanni. One inning later, a passed ball and an error allowed two more runs in, before an RBI-single from
Frank Rega (FR/West Islip, NY) made it 4-0.
Old Westbury then added a run in the bottom of the fourth off a fielder's choice, only to see the Blue and Orange score three more in the fifth.
Daly and Scarry started the scoring run by each recording RBI-singles.Â
Elian Herrera JR/Yonkers, NY) then drew a bases-loaded walk to make it, 7-1.
Old Westbury tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, trimming the margin to 7-3, where the contest eventually finished.Â
At bat, four players (Betances, Daly, Scarry and Rega) each finished with a pair of hits in the win.
On the mound, Daly got the start, going three innings and allowing one run on five hits.
Jonathan Uzzo (FR/Bethpage, NY) was the next man-up, as he allowed two runs on four hits over 1 2/3 innings of work.
From there,
Cass Muller (JR/Brooklyn, NY) completed the game by pitching the final 4 1/3 innings. During the stretch, he struckout three and allowed just three hits, which earned him the win.
Up next for Purchase is a return to non-conference action, as the team welcomes Saint Elizabeth University to campus on April 5. That single, nine-inning game will begin at 3 p.m.Â
