Purchase Splits Tri-Match at Baruch

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team split a pair of contests Tuesday night, as the Panthers fell to Baruch College and topped Yeshiva University.

Game One: Baruch 3, Purchase 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-3)

In the opening game, the Panthers jumped out to early leads in the first and second sets, before the Bearcats rallied in each frame. The hosts then scored 14-straight in set three to cruise to the match win.

Overall, the Blue and Orange finished with 11 kills, as Ava Landreth (FR/Brooklyn, NY) paced the squad with three kills.

Natalia Leite (FR/Thornwood, NY) recorded eight assists and a block, while Maya Brown (FR/Carteret, NJ) added a team-high nine digs.

Game Two: Purchase 3, Yeshiva 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17)

In the final match of the night, the Panthers rebounded with a solid performance to earn the Skyline Conference win.

Purchase finished with 24 kills on .019 hitting, while the trio of Landreth, Lauren White (JR/Washington, DC) and Jessica Scott (JR/Elmsford, NY) each tallied five kills apiece.

Leite collected 18 assists and nine digs, while Brown finished with a career and match-high 17 digs in the victory.

Despite the convincing result, the night actually started rough for the Panthers as they fell behind 8-1 in the first frame.

However, they weren't deterred and soon rallied to tie the score, before jumping ahead for good to win the opening stanza.

In the middle set, the squad used a pair of long runs to create distance between themselves and the Macs, eventually prevailing to go ahead 2-0.

Finally, the last set of the night saw the action tighten early on before the Blue and Orange managed to pull away late to seal the win.

With the split result, the Panthers moved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline Conference.

Up next for the squad is a return home as they welcome Pratt Institute to campus on September 14th. That contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. and you can follow it here.
