BROOKLYN, N.Y. - For the third-straight game, the Purchase College men's soccer team scored five-plus goals as it cruised to a win over Brooklyn College, 5-1.
With the win Saturday, the Panthers are now 3-1 overall. For the Bulldogs, they dropped to 0-2.
While the opening 20 minutes played to a scoreless standstill, that all changed in the 21st minute when first-year striker
Ermin Mackic (Yonkers, NY) found the back of the net.
From there, the offensive fireworks began as
Liam George (JR/Brooklyn, NY) scored in the 28th minute off a feed from Mackic to make it 2-0.
Following halftime, Mackic found the back of the net once more as this goal came just nine seconds into the second half. Less than two minutes later, senior captain
Leo Conte (New York, NY) added a strike on a solo effort.
Finally, Mackic completed his hat trick in the 57th minute as he scored off a feed from
David Encina (FR/White Plains, NY) to extend the lead to 5-0.
The hosts managed a response in the 81st minute to stop the shutout, but Purchase more than earned the win. In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) finished with a career-high 10 saves.
With the finish Saturday, the Panthers have now scored 19 goals in their last three contests and 20 goals on the season. For comparison, they scored just 25 goals over 17 games in 2022.Â
Up next for the high-powered Panthers is the Skyline Conference opener as they travel to St. Joseph's College-Long Island. That match is scheduled for September 19th at 6 p.m. and you can follow it here.
