JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 9-0 sweep over non-conference host York College Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers moved to 1-2 overall, while the Cardinals dropped to 0-2 in defeat.
Purchase jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles play. The No. 3 pairing of
Sierra Blanco (SO/ New York, NY) and
Harley Colletti (JR/Bardonia, NY) broke the scoring ice with a commanding 8-0 sweep over York's Maryam
Khan and Julia Wyman.
Olivia Menchell (JR/Los Angeles, CA) and
Novalie Nguyen (SO/Macedon, NY) swept second doubles, 8-0, while
Elaina Coppola (SR/White Plains, NY) and
Amelia Perlmutter (FR/Rutherford, NJ) rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-1 decision at the top flight.
Singles competition followed a similar script, with the Panthers winning comfortably at all six flights.
Menchell struck first with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 showing at the No. 2 spot. Nguyen was next in line to finish, recording a sixth singles score of 6-0, 6-0.
Rookie Panther
Emma Arnaud (SO/Farmington, NY) notched the deciding point to clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at third singles. In order of finish, Blanco (5th, 6-0, 6-0), Perlmutter (1st, 6-0, 6-1) and Coppola (4th, 6-1, 6-0) rounded out the Panther scoring on the day.
Purchase looks to continue its winning ways in its quick return to action tomorrow at Western Connecticut State University. The non-conference match is slated for 4 p.m.
