PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's soccer team had its four-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers fell to Manhattanville College by the score 4-2.
With the result, the Blue and Orange moved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference. For the Valiants, they improved to 1-3-3 and 1-0-1, respectively.
The game started fast and furious for the opposition, as Manhattanville found the back of the net twice in the opening 14 minutes.
Despite the deficit, Purchase settled in and was rewarded with a
Ermin Mackic (FR/Yonkers, NY)Â free-kick goal in the 27th minute to halve the margin.
However, the hosts wouldn't be denied in the effort, as a third goal in the 36th minute effectively sealed the game.
The Valiants added a fourth in the 52nd, before
Oliver Broun (FR/Athens, GA) got a goal back off a feed from Mackic in the 60th.
On the day, the two sides performed similarly with Purchase recording more overall shots (23-20) and Manhattanville tallying more shots on goal (12-10).
Mackic led the offensive effort with 11 shots (five on goal), a goal and an assist. In goal,
Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) totaled eight saves in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is the final non-conference game of the year, as the squad welcomes Medgar Evers College on September 25th at 7 p.m.
