PURCHASE, N.Y. — In a highly anticipated home opener, Purchase College squared off against SUNY Cobleskill in a thrilling non-conference women's soccer match that ended in a 1-1 tie.
Cobleskill's Jessica Carney broke the scoring ice in the contest's opening 10 minutes to give the visitors (0-1-1) an early 1-0 advantage. Carney collected a short pass from Gabriella Beaumier and hit a high shot from the top of the 18 that dipped just below the crossbar and through the fingertips of PC goalie
Carolyn Hough (SO/Massapequa, NY).
Purchase junior forward
Rebecca Quick (Millbrook, NY) evened the score, 1-1, with a stellar left-footed goal off a long pass from
Lindita Selmani (FR/Brooklyn, NY).
From that point on, the Panthers displayed their intention to control the game, pressing forward with relentless attacks and dominating in terms of possession and opportunity. However, Cobleskill's resolute defense and their opportunistic goal ensured that honors were shared after the final whistle.
Purchase outshot the Fighting Tigers 29-3 (10-3 on goal) and held a slight edge in corner kicks (3-1).
Cobleskill's Jojo Leubner and Dory Gosselin split time in goal, combining for nine saves, while Hough (0-0-2) collected two saves for Purchase.
