Panthers Bested at Yeshiva, 87-76

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team lost a Skyline Conference matchup Wednesday evening, falling to Yeshiva University by the score of 87-76.

With the result, the Panthers dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference. For the Maccabees, they moved to 11-7 and 8-1, respectively.

In total, the contest saw 10 lead changes as the two sides battled throughout.

In the first half, the Blue and Orange possessed a six-point advantage three separate times, before settling for a three-point margin at halftime, 38-35.

Once the action resumed, the Panthers continued to lead until less than 12 minutes remained. From that point on, the hosts began to slowly but surely pull away.

However, with 3:10 left in the game, Purchase trimmed the margin to just six points following a three-point play from Rashid Nikiema (SO/Winooski, VT). But they never got closer the rest of the way, as the Macs prevailed.

On the night, the guests shot 42.2% overall and 30.8% on 3-pointers. For Yeshiva, it went 58.5% and 52.6%, respectively.

Individually, Chad Duke (JR/Brooklyn, NY) finished with a team-high 17 points.

Desmond Ward (SO/Queens, NY) added a career-high 14 points and five rebounds, while Nikiema totaled 13 points and four rebounds.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to their home court, as they welcome St. Joseph's University-Long Island. That game is scheduled for January 26th at 5 p.m.
