PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in the Skyline Conference opener Tuesday evening, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-18, 25-9 and 25-13.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Golden Eagles, they improved to 6-7 and 2-0, respectively.
Superior hitting and long-scoring runs were the theme of the night for the hosts. St. Joseph's notched scoring streaks of at least five-straight points in the all three frames, as it combined to hit .252 with 44 kills.
For the Blue and Orange, they finished with 13 kills on -.081 hitting in the effort.
Lauren White (SR/Washington, DC) and
Sadie Weiss (FY/Bronx, NY) each finished with three kills apiece.
Natalia Leite (SO/Thornwood, NY) recorded 13 assists, while
Marcella Pena (SO/Bronx, NY) chipped in 12 digs.
Up next for the Panthers is more road Skyline Conference action, as the squad travels to Farmingdale State College on October 3rd at 6 p.m.
