PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team secured a win on Sunday afternoon, overpowering St. Joseph's University Long Island 6-1 . With the victory, the Panthers improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Skyline Conference play, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 2-6 and 0-3 in conference action.
The Panthers set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches. Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) made quick work of their opponents at the No. 3 spot, rolling to a 6-0 win. At No. 1, Amelia Perlmutter (SO/Rutherford, NJ) and Olivia Menchell (SR/Los Angeles, CA) secured a solid 6-3 victory, while Emma Arnaud (JR/Farmington, NY) and Novalie Nguyen (JR/Macedon, NY) fought hard for an 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, the Panthers maintained their strong form. Perlmutter dominated at No. 1 singles with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance, while Blanco mirrored that effort at No. 5, also winning 6-0, 6-0. Arnaud earned a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 3, and Nguyen outlasted her opponent at No. 4 in a split-set battle. Smith capped the singles victories with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Up next, the Panthers will return to the courts on October 15th, hosting Pratt Institute at 4:30 p.m.
