PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team faced a tough challenge against Pratt Institute on Tuesday afternoon, falling 5-0 in non-conference action. With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 7-4 overall, while the Cannoneers improved to 7-2 on the season.
Pratt took control early, sweeping the doubles matches. Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) fought hard at No. 2 doubles, pushing many games to deuce but ultimately fell 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, Lilia Qi (FY/Buffalo, NY) and Novalie Nguyen (JR/Macedon, NY) battled for each point in a closely contested 6-3 loss.
In singles play, the Cannoneers maintained their dominance. Emma Arnaud (JR/Farmington, NY) put up a strong effort at No. 2 singles but fell 6-4, 6-2. The No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 singles matches were swept, leading to an early end to the competition, with the No. 4 and No. 5 matches left unfinished.
The Blue and Orange will return to the court on October 19th to celebrate their lone senior, Olivia Menchell (Los Angeles, CA), as they face Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State College at 11 a.m.
