PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team faced a tough 5-0 defeat against local Skyline Conference rival Manhattanville University on Wednesday night. The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-13-2 overall and 1-7-1 in conference play, while the Valiants improved to 6-4-4 and 5-2-2, respectively.
The game was tightly contested throughout much of the first half, with Purchase's defense holding strong until the 38th minute, when Manhattanville broke through to open the scoring. Thanks to some crucial saves by goalkeeper
Carolyn Hough (JR/Plainedge, NY), the Panthers entered halftime trailing just 1-0.
However, Manhattanville picked up momentum in the second half, netting three quick goals in succession before adding a final tally in the 68th minute to secure the 5-0 result.
Offensively, the Blue and Orange struggled to create chances, managing just one shot, which came from
Emily Giron (SO/Newburgh, NY). Hough remained resilient in goal, recording 12 saves on the night to help limit the damage.
The Panthers will have a few days to regroup before hosting the College at Old Westbury on October 26th for Senior Day, where they will honor four graduating players and their dedication to the program.
