PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's soccer team marked Senior Day with a determined effort in a 1-0 loss to Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. With the result, the Panthers now stand 3-14-2 overall and 1-8-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Old Westbury moved to 6-10-2 and 4-6-0.
Before the start of the match, the team honored it's four graduating seniors with an emotion filled ceremony.
Analie Ingalsbe (West Hurley, NY),
Rebecca Quick (Millbrook,NY),
Shannon Paulson (Mastic, NY) and
Alina Vazquez (Saugerties, NY) were joined by friends and family on the field for flowers and gifts while words by head coach Nick Malvai were shared that celebrated each senior's contributions. Quick and Vazquez, sidelined by recent injuries, took part in their final lineup and a ceremonial pass, marking a special final moment on the field with their team.
With the ceremony concluded, the game began with both teams vying for control. The game's only goal came in the 30th minute after a shot from Old Westbury rebounded off a save by Purchase goalkeeper
Carolyn Hough (JR/Plainedge, NY). In a scramble to clear the ball, the defensive line mishit, resulting in an unfortunate own goal.
The Panthers fought hard for an equalizer, outshooting the visitors 16-7, with Lindita Selmani (SO/Brooklyn, NY) leading the team with six shots and Jessica McHugh (SO/Ellenville, NY) close behind with five. Hough anchored the defense with three saves across the full 90 minutes. Despite the effort, the game concluded 1-0.
The team will hit the road for their final match of the 2024 season, facing Saint Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 3:30 p.m.
