PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling at Manhattanville University in straight sets.
Scores for the contest were 25-10, 25-13 and 25-14. With the result, the Panthers moved to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the league. For the Valiants, they jumped to 14-8 and 8-0, respectively.
The hosts started the contest on a tear and never looked back after scoring 19 of the first 21 points on the day.
Set two saw the action tighten between the two sides, but smaller runs still allowed Manhattanville to prevail in the stanza, 25-13.
In the last frame, Purchase kept things close early on, before a 9-2 run midway through gave the hosts all that they needed to seal the victory.
Overall, the Blue and Orange hit -.047 with 13 kills, while the Valiants finished with totals of .226 and 34, respectively.
Individually,
Kalyn Cormier (SR/Houston, TX) finished with six kills to lead the Panthers.
Helena Carroll (FY/Lancaster, PA) collected 10 assists, while
Natalia Leite (SO/Thornwood, NY) added 13 digs in the effort.
Up next for Purchase is a return home as the squad hosts St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on October 30th at 7 p.m.
