Panthers Defeated at Centenary, 2-1

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon, falling to Centenary University by the score of 2-1.

With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-8 overall, while the Cyclones moved to 4-7-1.

On the day, the hosts started quickly, producing seven shots over the first 28 minutes, before finally breaking through with a penalty kick in the 29th minute.

Eight minutes later, Centenary found the back of the net once more to extend the margin to 2-0 right before halftime.

Following the break, the Blue and Orange responded with a strike of their own, as Yahir Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY) drilled one past the keeper in the 54th minute.

Over the final 36 minutes, Purchase kept up the pressure on offense trying to find an equalizer, producing four shots on goal and three corner kicks. But the hosts never broke on defense and escaped with the home victory.

Overall, the two sides played an even contest, as shots on goal, corner kicks and fouls were nearly identical.

In goal, Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) finished with six saves for the guests.

Up next for the Panthers is a return home, as the squad hosts Baruch College on October 7th at 7 p.m.
