Tafoya Scores a Brace in Loss to Baruch

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Purchase College first-year Yahir Tafoya scored twice Monday night, but it wasn't enough to lift the Purchase College men's soccer team against Baruch College.

In the end, the guests won by the score of 6-2. With the result, the Panthers are now 1-9 overall, while the Bearcats moved to 2-5-2.

Tafoya (FY/Bronx, NY) scored his first goal early in the second half, as he found the back of the net off a feed from Liam George (SR/Brooklyn, NY) in the 48th minute.

Later on, he scored once more on a solo effort in the 75th minute. On the season, the now leads the Panthers with six goals, including three over the last two games.

As for the rest of the night, it was all Baruch as the guests took the lead early, before blowing the contest wide open in the second frame.

To begin, the Bearcats scored during the seventh minute and carried the 1-0 margin into halftime.

Following the intermission, they scored again in the 47th to make it 2-0, before Tafoya's 48th minute goal cut the margin to just one.

Things changed suddenly during the home stretch, as Baruch scored goals in the 74th, 80th, 81st and 82nd minutes to seal the win.

Overall, shots favored the guests, 13-8, as both sides scored on half of their shots on goal. In goal, Jack Gjokaj (SR/Thornwood, NY) finished with six saves. 

Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as they travel to Farmingdale State College on October 9th. That contest is set for a 4 p.m. start.
