PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team was defeated Monday night, falling to Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference matchup.
Scores for the contest were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-12.
With the result, the Panthers are now 3-10 overall and 0-3 in the league. For the Gryphons, they moved to 10-5 and 4-1, respectively.
To begin, the hosts looked good, scoring three of the first four points of the night. But the guests quickly rebounded, taking the lead for good after scoring five of the next seven points.
In set two, Sarah Lawrence used two big scoring runs to race out to a 16-3 advantage, before the Blue and Orange pulled off two runs of their own to trim the margin to 23-19 late.
However, an attacking error and ace stopped the rally and gave the set to the Skyline rivals.
Finally, the last frame was close early on until a late run from the Gryphons sealed the victory on the night.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 21 kills on .045 hitting, while the guests enjoyed totals of 38 and .262, respectively.
Individually,
Sadie Weiss (FY/Bronx, NY) and
Helena Carroll (FY/Lancaster, PA) each finished with seven points in the effort.
Natalia Leite (SO/Thornwood, NY) recorded 11assists, while
Marcella Pena (SO/Bronx, NY) chipped in 15 digs.
Up next for the squad is more home Skyline action, as it welcomes SUNY Old Westbury on October 9th at 7 p.m.
