PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's tennis team put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short by the score 5-2 against Baruch College on Tuesday afternoon. With the result, the Panthers move to 6-3 overall while the Bearcats improve to 9-1.
Despite the tough competition, the Blue and Orange found success in the No. 3 doubles and the lower singles spots. In doubles, Sierra Blanco (JR/New York, NY) and Katelin Smith (SO/Slate Hill, NY) pulled off an impressive 6-1 win at No. 3, securing Purchase's only doubles victory.
In singles play, both Blanco and Smith carried their momentum into their respective matches. At No. 5 singles, Blanco delivered a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win. Meanwhile, Smith dominated her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles, securing another point for the Panthers.
Up next for the Blue and Orange is a home match against Skyline Conference rival St. Joseph's University-Long Island on October 13th at 11:00 a.m.
