PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) in their Skyline Conference opener on Wednesday evening by the score 79-34. With the result, the Blue and Orange dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the visitors improved to 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.
From the tip-off, the Dolphins came out firing, building a commanding 29-7 lead in the first quarter and maintaining control throughout.
Katie Argenzio (FY/Washingtonville, NY) scored Purchase's lone three-pointer in the second quarter, but UMSV closed the half ahead 48-10.
The Panthers regrouped at halftime and outscored UMSV 13-10 in the third quarter. However, they were unable to contain the Dolphins' offensive firepower and ultimately fell 79-34 at the final buzzer.
Purchase struggled offensively, shooting 27.7% from the field and 22.7% from beyond the arc but had 75% on free throws.
Charlee Neb (JR/Longmont, CO) and
Tvisha Sivaramakrishnan (FY/White Plains, NY) paced the Panthers with nine points each, while Argenzio added eight points off the bench, including her first and second collegiate three-pointers.
The Panthers return to action on November 26, when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m.
