PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College women's basketball team was bested by the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Skyline Conference action on Tuesday night, falling 82-39. With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Skyline, while the Mariners improved to 4-1 and 3-0, respectively.
The visitors surged to a quick 23-point lead before Kaylena Steiner (SO/Fresno, CA) put the Panthers on the board. The early deficit and consistent pressure from the Mariners proved insurmountable, sealing the final score at 82-39.
Individually, Carlye Graff (SR/South Nyack, NY) led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 7-9 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc, while Charlee Neb (JR/Longmont, CO) added nine points. Jessica McHugh (SO/Ellenville, NY) contributed three points and three rebounds off the bench and Jaileen Martinez-Gomez (SO/Inwood, NY) added four points and two rebounds to help the effort.
Purchase shot 29.4% for field goals, 33.3% three-pointers and 80% on free throws.
The Blue and Orange return to action after the Thanksgiving break, traveling to Lehman College on November 30th for a 2 p.m. matchup.
