Purchase Topped in Thrilling Home Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's volleyball team dropped a thriller Tuesday night, falling to Maritime College in five sets.

Set scores the Skyline Conference contest were 10-25, 25-22, 25-21, 11-25 and 15-9.

With the result, the Panthers moved to 6-14 overall and 3-7 in the league. For the Privateers, they jumped to 6-19 and 3-7, respectively.

In the opening set, the Blue and Orange rolled with ease, as it appeared that's how the rest of the match might go.

However, the guests then responded with back-to-back wins in sets two and three to grab the lead, before Purchase answered the call in set four with a resounding win.

From there, the two sides moved to a tie-breaking fifth frame. Unfortunately for the hosts, they opened it up on the wrong foot, dropping the first six points.

On three occasions, the Panthers managed to trim the margin to just three points apiece, but Maritime held on for the big win.

Overall, Purchase finished with 50 kills on .151 hitting, while the Privateers fared worse with 35 and .034, respectively.

Individually, Helena Carroll (FY/Lancaster, PA) tallied a game-high 15 points (11 kills, four aces), 21 assists and 11 digs to power the effort.

Sadie Weiss (FY/Bronx, NY) finished with a team-high 13 kills, while Marcella Pena (SO/Bronx, NY) totaled 21 digs.

Up next for the squad is the season finale, as Purchase travels to Kings Point, NY to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy on November 7th at 7 p.m.
