Men's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Five Games

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball secured two wins Sunday afternoon to extend its winning streak to five straight after besting Skyline Conference rivals, Yeshiva University and the University of Mount Saint Vincent.

Game One: Purchase 3, Yeshiva 0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-17)

In their first game of the day, the Panthers absolutely cruised to victory over the Maccabees, as they hit .411 overall with 40 kills.

Individually, Channing Williams (FY/Neptune, NJ) paced everyone with a match-high 19.5 points on 16 kills, two aces and three block assists.

Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) was right on his heals with 15 kills and an ace, while Aidan Araza (FY/Jersey City, NJ) tallied 34 assists.

Game Two: Purchase 3, Mount Saint Vincent 2 (25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 15-11)

Following the easy win, things changed against the Dolphins, as the game turned into a slugfest late.

Initially, the Panthers cruised like they had in opening match, easily taking the first two sets.

Mount Saint Vincent didn't go down without a fight though, as the hosts responded with back-to-back wins in the third and fourth to push the match to a deciding fifth frame.

However, the Blue and Orange proved to be too much in the end, using a run late to create just enough separation to earn the victory.

In total, Purchase hit .229 with 43 kills, while the Dolphins recorded 47 kills on .117 hitting.

Williams once again led the Blue and Orange, this time recording 17 kills and 14 digs, both of which were match highs.

Ryan collected 14 kills, while Araza set a career-high with 36 assists, and Jael Martinez (FY/Bronx, NY) added nine kills, three aces and two block assists.

Up next for the squad is a quick turnaround, as they are back in action tomorrow (3/11) at Ramapo College at 7 p.m.
