PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team suffered a loss in its home opener Monday afternoon, falling to Wells College by the score of 13-4.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 0-2 on the young season. For the Express, they now sit at 4-0 overall.
The guests began the contest by scoring the first three goals of the day, before
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) broke the streak for the Panthers off a gorgeous pass from
Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) late in the first quarter.
From there, the Express notched two more goals in the second to lead 5-1 at halftime.
Following the break, Kozak scored her first of the day, as she found the back of the net just one minute into the third period.
However, from that moment on, Wells exploded on offense to the tune of six-straight goals to blow the game open.
Velasquez and Kozak each added one more goal in the fourth, before a pair of Express goals pushed the score to 13-4, where it finished.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) enjoyed a career performance as she totaled a program-record 28 saves on 46 shots.Â
Up next for the Panthers is another non-conference home matchup, as the squad welcomes Centenary University on March 13th at 5 p.m.
