OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team split a pair of Skyline Conference contests Saturday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island and besting SUNY Old Westbury.
Game One: St. Joseph's-LI 3, Purchase 0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-10)
In the opening match, the Panthers were dispatched with relative ease by the two-time defending conference champion Golden Eagles.
The Blue and Orange finished with 17 kills on a negative hitting percentage, while St. Joseph's totaled 39 kills on .569 hitting.
Individually,
Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) finished with a team-high seven kills and one block assist.
Channing Williams (FY/Neptune, NJ) added four kills, and
Aidan Araza (FY/Jersey City, NJ) collected 11 assists.
Game Two: Purchase 3, Old Westbury 0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-12)
Following the loss, the Panthers rebounded in a big way, breezing past the Panthers of Old Westbury in straight sets.
In sets one and three, the Blue and Orange recorded massive scoring runs to cruise to victory, while the middle frame saw shorter runs that were momentarily interrupted by the hosts.
In total, Purchase finished with 41 kills on .302 hitting. Meanwhile, Old Westbury totaled 14 kills on negative hitting.
Ryan and Williams each finished with 10 kills in the performance, while
Jael Martinez (FY/Bronx, NY) totaled nine kills and 13 digs.
Araza and
Mauricio Ramirez (FY/Passiac, NJ) each recorded 18 assists in the win.
Up next for the Panthers is a home matchup with New Jersey City University on March 19th at 7 p.m.
