PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team secured its first victory of the 2024 season Tuesday evening, after it bested Albertus Magnus College by the score of 15-3.
With the win, the Panthers are now 1-4 overall, while the Falcons dropped to 0-6 with the result.
The hosts struck early and often on the night, as they totaled the first six goals of the contest en route to the easy win.
Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) provided the first tally less than a minute in, before
Catie Chios (FY/Westbury, NY) doubled the total with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Kozak then scored back-to-back goals to make it 4-0 after 15 minutes.
In the second quarter,
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) got in on the action, as did
Hayley Peck (SR/Levittown, NY), who scored her first collegiate goal to push things to 6-0 overall.
From there, the guests found the back of the net to trim the margin to five, before Kozak added another goal and extend the lead to 7-1 at halftime.
Following the break, Kozak and Velasquez scored two straight goals, before Albertus Magnus broke the run with a strike with just over three minutes to go in the third.
Now leading, 9-2, the Panthers continued to work on offense as Velasquez and
Alison Salinas (SR/West Hempstead, NY) each scored. For Salinas, it was her collegiate goal, same as Peck.
The Falcons then added their final goal of the night to make it an 11-3, before Velasquez scored twice, Kozak added one more and
Annelise Durkin (FY/Mattituck, NY) scored her first-ever goal to record the final four goals of the game.
Individually, Kozak finished with 10 points (6g, 4a), seven draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Velasquez tallied five goals, three draw controls and three ground balls, while Chios had two points (1g, 1a), three caused turnovers and a ground ball.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY)Â secured 12 saves for her fifth-straight game of double-digit saves. She also totaled four ground balls.
Up next for the Panthers are two weeks of rest, before the squad returns to action with the Skyline Conference opener at St. Joseph's University-Long Island. That matchup is scheduled for April 2nd at 5:30 p.m.Â
