PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in its Skyline Conference opener Tuesday evening, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island by the score of 19-1.
With the result, the Panthers are now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Golden Eagles, they moved to 4-3 and 2-0, respectively.
From the get-go, the hosts raced out to a big lead and never looked back. In the first quarter alone, they scored 11 goals, before carrying a 16-0 margin into the midway break.
Following halftime, St. Joseph's scored three more to open the game with 19-straight goals, until the Panthers broke the streak at the very end of the game.
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) provided the lone strike for the Blue and Orange, as she found the back of the net as the final horn sounded.Â
Individually, Velasquez finished with four draw controls, three shots and one ground ball.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) totaled 16 saves, seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.Â
Up next for the Panthers is more road Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to Maritime College on April 5th at 5 p.m.
