Purchase Falls at Maritime College

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Friday evening, falling to Maritime College by the score of 21-2.

With the result, the Panthers are now 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the league. For the Privateers, they jumped 5-2 and 2-0, respectively. 

From the get-go, the action was all Maritime. The hosts opened with 12 goals in the first quarter, before taking a 17-0 lead into the halftime break.

Following the intermission, Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) broke the scoreless streak for the Panthers, as she found the back of the net less than a minute into the third.

Later in the quarter, after the Privateers added another goal, Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) scored the second and final goal of the contest for the Blue and Orange.

The hosts then added three more tallies over the rest of the period and into the fourth to seal the win.

On the night, Velasquez collected three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover, while Kozak recorded two draw controls and a ground ball.

In goal, Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) finished with eight saves and five ground balls.

Up next for the Panthers is a return to non-conference action, as the team travels north to take on Rhode Island College on April 8th at 4 p.m.
