PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated on the road Monday afternoon, falling to Rhode Island College by the score of 12-3.
With the result, the Panthers are now 1-7 overall. For the Anchorwomen, they moved to 2-8 on the year.
After 15 minutes, the Blue and Orange trailed by the score of 3-1, as
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) scored the lone goal.
The second quarter was all Rhode Island, as the hosts outscored Purchase 6-0 over the frame to carry a huge lead into halftime.
When play resumed,
Hayley Peck (SR/Levittown, NY) scored her second career goal off a feed from Velasquez. However, the hosts then proceeded to score three-straight goals over the third and fourth quarters to make it 12-2.
To close out the contest, Velasquez scored her second of the day to push the scoreline to its final tally. She finished with 11 shots, four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover in the effort.
Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) collected three draw controls, three caused turnovers and one ground ball.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) tallied 24 saves, nine ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Up next for the Panthers is a return to Skyline Conference action, as they travel to Manhattanville University on April 10th at 7 p.m.
