PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team was defeated in a Skyline Conference matchup Thursday night, falling to Manhattanville University by the score of 17-7.
With the result, the Panthers dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the league. For the Valiants, they moved to 4-7 and 1-2, respectively.
Prior to the game, the two sides posed for a photo in their "One Love" shirts, as the game was dedicated to the One Love Foundation, which is an organization that brings awareness of healthy relationships and advocacy for abuse survivors.
Once the game kicked off, things quickly turned in favor of the guests.
In the first quarter, they outscored Purchase, 6-0, before
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) broke the streak early in the second.
From there, the Valiants score six of the next seven goals, as Velasquez added her second of the night to breakup the run once again.
Just before halftime,
Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) got in on the scoring, as she cut the hosts' deficit to 12-3.
Following halftime, Kozak scored four more times, before the guests prevailed in the rainy matchup, 17-7.
Individually, she finished with five goals, four draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball, while Velasquez totaled three points (2g, 1a), three ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) collected 18 saves and five ground balls in the effort.
Up next for the Panthers is a quick turnaround as they are back in action at home against Mount Saint Mary College tomorrow (4/12) at 6 p.m.
