PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse was defeated in its Skyline Conference home opener Friday night, falling to Mount Saint Mary College by the score of 19-4.
With the result, the Panthers are now 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the league. For the Knights, they jumped to 7-4 and 2-2, respectively.
The guests raced out to an early advantage, leading 8-0 after one quarter, and never looked back.
For the hosts,
Alyssa Kozak (SR/East Meadow, NY) scored back-to-back goals in the second to get Purchase on the board, before five straight goals from Mount pushed the halftime advantage to 13-2.
Following the break, the Knights totaled three goals in the third, before
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) tallied a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.
In the end, Mount Saint Mary prevailed by the score of 19-4.
Individually, Kozak finished with nine shots (seven on goal), five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.Â
Alison Salinas (SR/West Hampstead, NY) totaled two caused turnovers and two ground balls, while
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) recorded 13 saves and five ground balls.
Up next for the Panthers is more Skyline Conference action, as the team hosts Farmingdale State College on April 16th at 7 p.m.
