PURCHASE, N.Y. - On Friday evening, the Purchase College men's lacrosse team secured victory over Centenary University to the tune of 15-8.
The Blue and Orange improved their season record 2-5, while the Cyclones now stand at 1-5.Â
On the night, the Panthers got off to a hot start as
Will Boes (JR/Pleasantville, NY) made back-to-back saves before
William Cavallo (5th/Centereach, NY) snagged a loose ball paving the way for
Dylan Cassone's (FY/Farmingdale, NY)
opening goal.
Shakim CarrÂ
(SO/Brooklyn, NY) then linked up with
Charley Jimenez (FY/Hempstead, NY) for the team's second goal of the night.
Despite Centenary finding the net once in the quarter, Jimenez and Carr struck again followed by a
Jack Saueracker (JR/Old Bethpage, NY) goal to secure a 4-1 lead.
The second quarter remained intense, with
Ryan Lubowitz (SO/Stamford, CT) adding another goal for the Panthers. Saueracker and Lubowitz, with Carr's assistance, further bolstered the score 7-1.
Although the visitors managed another goal, Jimenez responded promptly with his third of the night.
At the end of the half,
Mark Piccolino (FY/Staten Island, NY) sealed the period with his second goal of the season, further extending the lead to 9-2.
After halftime, Jimenez and Carr continued their dominance, scoring early in the third quarter.
In spite of the Cyclone's efforts, Piccolino added his second goal of the night, maintaining the Panthers' lead.
Although Centenary scored once more, Carr's unassisted goal closed the quarter with a score of 12-4.
Sam Erlich (FYPlainview, NY) took to guarding the cage in the final quarter and faced a barrage of shots from Centenary. Although he conceded three goals, Purchase maintained its lead, with Piccolino and Cassone adding two more goals, bringing the score to 14-7.
As Centenary rallied for one final push, Jimenez ensured Purchase had the last word, scoring once more to seal the victory at 15-8.
Individually, Jimenez stood out with five goals, one assist, and four ground balls.
Carr's six assists played a crucial role in the offensive effort, with Piccolino also making a significant impact by achieving a career-high three goals.
Boes, credited with the win, made 12 saves, while Erlich added five saves. Together, they faced a total of 40 shots.
