Men's Volleyball Secures Pair of Skyline Wins

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team secured a pair of Skyline Conference wins Saturday afternoon, besting Sarah Lawrence College and St. Joseph's Univerity-Brooklyn in straight sets.

Game One: Purchase 3, Sarah Lawrence 0 (25-20, 25-17 and 25-17)

The Panthers exploded in the opening game to the tune of 43 kills on .181 hitting, as they set the tone early with four of the first five points.

Despite the quick start, the Gryphons stayed close throughout, even leading on one occasion.

However, with the score tied at 18-all, the guests scored four straight and seven of the final nine points to earn the first-set win.

In sets two and three, the Panthers rolled early and often in route to victory.

Individually, Tyler Ryan (JR/Port Reading, NJ) recorded a team-high 13 kills and 11 digs to lead the Blue and Orange.

Jael Martinez (FY/Bronx, NY) added 11 kills and 10 digs, while Nate Matthie (FY/Bronx, NY) tallied a game-high 15 digs.

Mauricio Ramirez (FY/Passaic, NJ) and Aidan Araza (FY/Jersey City, NJ) combined for 37 assists in the win.

Game Two: Purchase 3, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-19)

Following their win, the Panthers returned to action for a neutral-site matchup with the Bears of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.

The initial set proved to be the most challenging of the day for Purchase, as neither side led by more than two points throughout.

In total, the frame saw eight lead changes and 17 tie scores, before the Blue and Orange prevailed.

The final two sets saw the Panthers enjoy big leads early on as they cruised to their second win on the day.

Overall, Purchase finished with 37 kills on .236 hitting, as Channing Williams (FY/Neptune, NJ) powered the effort with a game-high 17 kills.

Martinez added 13 digs and Araza totaled 18 assists.

With the wins, the Panthers are now 14-9 overall and 9-3 in the Skyline Conference. The nine wins are a new program record.

Up next for Purchase is a return to its home court as it welcomes the other St. Joseph's University program, Long Island. That contest will be played on March 25th at 7 p.m.
