FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team was defeated in its Skyline Conference opener Saturday afternoon, falling to Farmingdale State College by the score of 9-0.
With the result, the Panthers are now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the league. For the Rams, they moved to 4-0 and 1-0, respectively.
The hosts cruised in the doubles matchups, winning 24 of 26 games played.
When the action switched to singles play, the Rams remained ahead as Purchase kept things close.
At No.1 singles,
Eli Palagatshev (SO/Yonkers, NY) lost by the score of 6-4, 6-2, while No.2
Steve Mains (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) fell 6-1, 6-1.
The closest battle of the day though belonged to No. 4
Oliver Culliton (JR/Boston, MA), who was edged late on a tiebreaker, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
Up next for the Panthers is more road Skyline Conference action, as the team travels to St. Joseph's University-Long Island on April 3rd at 5 p.m.
