Men's Lacrosse Secures Victory over MCLA

PURCHASE, N.Y. - On Wednesday evening, the Purchase College men's lacrosse team secured its first victory of the season against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) with a final score of 10-7.

Despite the challenging conditions caused by pouring rain, Purchase seized the initiative early on, with Shakim Carr (SO/Brooklyn, NY) finding the back of the net just four minutes into the first quarter.

Later on, exploiting a defensive lapse from the Trailblazers, Carr notched the second goal of the night.

Ryan Lubowitz (SO/Stamford, CT), inspired by Carr's efforts, followed suit with a goal of his own just a minute later. Showing no signs of slowing down, Lubowitz netted his second goal shortly before the end of the quarter, establishing a 4-0 lead for Purchase.

However, the visitors wouldn't be shut out in the period, notching their first with four seconds to go.

The Trailblazers, fired up from the goal, carried their momentum into the second, scoring four goals and denying any scoring attempts from the Panthers. The halftime buzzer sounded with a score of 5-4 in favor of MCLA.

Despite halftime adjustments, the deficit grew for Purchase as the visitors struck first in the third. Yet, the Panthers were undeterred, mounting a spirited comeback, scoring three consecutive goals to take the lead by the end of the quarter, 7-6.

In the fourth quarter, Lubowitz continued to drive the momentum, scoring the game-winning eighth goal with over 10 minutes remaining. Charley Jimenez (FY/Hempstead, NY) and Dylan Cassone (FY/Farmingdale, NY) contributed the final two goals of the night bringing the final score to 10-7.

Individually, Lubowitz scored five goals and had one assist, while Cassone and Carr contributed two goals apiece.

Steven Sanchez (FY/Queens, NY) went 14-for-21 on faceoffs and scooped up eight ground balls.

Will Boes (JR/Pleasantville, NY) played all 60 minutes in goal and had nine saves against 16 shots on goal. His record is now 1-1.

With this triumph, the Panthers advanced to a 1-2 overall record, while the visitors fell to 0-3.

Looking ahead, the team prepares to travel to Dean College on March 9th at noon.
