MAHWAH, N.J. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team opened up the 2024 season with a loss Saturday afternoon, falling at Ramapo College by the score of 15-2.
With the result, the Panthers begin 0-1, while the Roadrunners moved to 2-1 overall.
To begin, the hosts notched an early goal, before a behind-the-back strike from
Catie Chios (FY/Westbury, NY) tied the game up at 1-all with just over four minutes played.
From there, the effort turned completely in Ramapo's favor, as the Roadrunners scored 14 in a row as they raced to the victory.
However, before the final whistle sounded, senior co-captain
Alyssa Kozak (East Meadow, NY) scored on a free-position shot to push the final margin to 15-2.
Overall, the Blue and Orange won the draw control battle (10-9), while performing solidly on clear attempts (6-for-10).
Individually, Kozak led the offense with four shots (all on goal) and six draw controls, while
Julieth Velasquez (SO/White Plains, NY) totaled two shots and three draw controls.
Chios finished with three shots, two ground balls, one caused turnover and one draw control.
In goal,
Amani Jamal (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) recorded 13 saves on 35 shots, 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Up next for the Panthers is the team's home opener as they welcome Wells College on March 11th at 4 p.m.
