PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team was defeated in its home opener Wednesday afternoon, falling to Yeshiva University by the score of 6-3.
With the result, the Panthers are now 0-6 on the year. For the Maccabees, they moved to 4-8.
The day started promisingly for the hosts as they prevailed in two of three doubles matchups.
At the No.1 spot, the pair of
Suleyman Eminov (JR/Mary, Turkmenistan) and
Eli Palagatshev (SO/Yonkers, NY) emerged with the win on a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6).
The No.2 duo of
Steve Mains (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) and
Yuta Kawamura (SO/Old Greenwich, CT) also claimed victory, taking their matchup by the score of 8-2.
Following doubles action, the Macs rebounded in a big way during singles play as they won five of six matchups.
The lone Blue and Orange win came at the No. 6 spot, as
Oliver Culliton (JR/Boston, MA) outlasted his opponent, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.
Up next for the Panthers is a non-conference home matchup against John Jay College. That contest is scheduled for April 12th at 3 p.m.
