Men's Tennis Falls Short at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team took on its Anderson Hill Road rivals at Manhattanville University on Saturday afternoon, ultimately succumbing to a 7-1 defeat.

With the result, the Panthers are now 0-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play. For the Valiants, they moved to 4-3 and 2-0, respectively.

The day commenced with mixed results in doubles play, as the Blue and Orange managed to secure one out of three matchups.

Steve Mains (JR/Mount Kisco, NY) and and Eli Palagatshev (SO/Yonkers, NY) prevailed at the No. 2 spot clinching a hard-fought 8-6 victory.

However, the home team secured victory at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots beating out Purchase 8-3 and 8-0, respectively.

Following the doubles action, Manhattanville dominated the singles matches, claiming victory in five out of the six matchups.

Oliver Culliton (JR/Boston, MA) fought valiantly at the No. 4 spot but was unable to turn the tide, conceding the match after dropping the first two sets 6-0 and 7-5.

At the No. 1 spot, Palagatshev secured the first set 6-4 before the match was abruptly halted due to inclement weather.

Up next, the Panthers travel to matchup against St. Joseph's University-Long Island on April 14th at 1 p.m.
