Men's Lacrosse Falters at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team ultimately succumbed to a 23-4 defeat in a matchup against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night

Following the outcome, the Panthers are now 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Meanwhile, Merchant Marine improved to 8-4 and 4-1, respectively.
 
On the day, the Blue and Orange faced an onslaught from the start as the home team scored the first 14 goals of the game. 

Charley Jimenez (FY/Hempstead, NY) managed to score the lone goal of the half with less than two minutes remaining. However, just as the buzzer sounded to end the half, the hosts found the back of the net, bringing the halftime score to 15-1.

Following halftime adjustments, Mark Piccolino (FY/Staten Island, NY) and Ryan Lubowitz (SO/Stamford, CT) wasted no time and swiftly scored the first two goals of the quarter.

Unfazed, USMMA would score thrice before Shakim Carr (SO/Brooklyn, NY) secured the final goal for Purchase, bringing the score to 18-4.

The hosts would go on to score five additional goals in the final quarter, ending the game 23-4.

In goal, Will Boes (JR/Pleasantville, NY) made seven saves and conceded 15 goals in the first half. Sam Erlich (FY/Plainview, NY) took over in the second half, allowing eight goals and making seven saves.

Individually, Carr made four shots, scored one goal, grabbed one ground ball, and caused one turnover.

Lubowitz, Jimenez, and Piccolino each contributed one goal, with Piccolino also recording two ground balls.

Defensively, Soleil Gaines secured three ground balls and caused one turnover, while Niko Sfugaras added two caused turnovers.

Up next, the team hits the road to Farmingdale State College on April 20th, with the game set for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
