STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team secured a pair of wins Saturday afternoon, besting St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn by the scores of 17-3 and 12-5.
With the results, the Panthers moved to 14-15 overall and 6-4 in the league. For the Bears, they dropped to 7-21.
Game One: Purchase 17, St. Joseph's 3 (7 inn)
The first contest of the afternoon saw the Panthers race out to a big lead and never look back.
The scoring started in the third inning, when the guests knocked in five runs. From there, the floodgates opened.
Over the next three innings, the Blue and Orange totaled four, three and five runs, respectively, en route to the massive win.
Overall, the squad finished with 17 runs on just 10 hits in the effort.Â
Liam Daly (SO/Babylon, NY) and
Brandon Gonzalez (FY/Flushing, NY) led the way, as each player finished with four RBIs and mashed a home run.
On the mound,
Alex Doskoez (5th/Eastport, NY) tallied the complete-game win. He went seven innings, allowing just three runs while striking out six.
Game Two: Purchase 12, St. Joseph's 5
Following the opening victory, Purchase faced more resistance in game two.
The guests grabbed the lead early with two first-inning runs, before the Bears responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1.
From there, things remained unchanged until the fifth inning, when the Panthers scored twice more.
However, the hosts answered in a big way one inning later, scoring four runs to grab their first lead of the day, 5-4.
In the end, it turned out to be short lived, as Purchase responded with a vengeance over the next three innings with two, three and three more runs, respectively.Â
In total, the visitors won by the score of 12-5, producing 16 hits along the way.
Daly continued his monster day at the plate with an additional two homers, four hits, five RBIs and four runs in the win. Along the way, he collected his 100th career hit, a remarkable achievement considering he is only a sophomore.
As for the rest of the squad,
Tyler Della Mura (SO/Rye Brook, NY) collected four hits of his own, as
Frank Rega (SO/West Islip, NY),
Myles Scarry (SR/Levittown, NY) and Gonzalez each tallied two hits apiece.
On the mound,
Christian Miesegaes (FY/Staten Island, NY) started, going 5.1 innings. He allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits, while fanning two in the no decision.
Instead,
Justin Doskoez (SR/Eastport, NY) earned the win in relief. He went 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on six hits.
Up next for the squad is a return to their home field as they host Manhattanville University tomorrow (4/21) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
