Purchase Topped by St. Joseph's-Long Island

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team dropped a pair of contests Thursday afternoon, falling to St. Joseph's University-Long Island by the scores fo 11-1 16-3.

With the results, the Panthers are now 9-14 overall and 5-5 in the conference. For the Golden Eagles, they moved to 8-18 and 3-9, respectively.

Game One: St. Joseph's 11, Purchase 1 (5 inn)

In the opening game, the guests jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they scored two in the first inning, three in the second and six in the third.

For the hosts, they broke their scoreless streak in the fifth off an RBI fielder's choice for Samantha Christopher (FY/North Babylon, NY).

Christopher, the team's starting pitcher, also recorded a double, while allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 1.1 innings.

Game Two: St. Joseph's 16, Purchase 3 (5 inn)

After the game one result, the Panthers looked to rebound in game two. However, the guests managed to pick up right where they left off, blowing the contest open early.

Following two scoreless innings to start, the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the third inning, 10 in the fourth and two more in the fifth to cruise.

During the run, the Blue and Orange managed to plate three runs of their own, thanks to a two-run single from Katie Straub (FY/Lynbrook, NY) and an RBI fielder's choice from Jade D'Errico (SR/Wantagh, NY).

Overall, the Panthers recorded five hits in the effort, as Straub collected two of them.

On the mound, Abigail Lipkin (SO/Bethlehem, PA) was tagged with the loss, after allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits in 3.1 innings. 

Up next for the squad is a Skyline Conference matchup with SUNY Old Westbury on April 27th at noon.
