PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team secured a split result Saturday afternoon, as the squad celebrated Senior Day prior to its doubleheader against Farmingdale State College.
The Panthers prevailed in game one, 5-4, before the guests responded in game two, 7-2. With the results, the Blue and Orange are now 18-19 overall and 10-8 in the Skyline Conference.
With the split, Purchase now controls its playoff destiny tomorrow (5/5). With two wins over Yeshiva University, the Panthers would clinch the No.5 seed, while one win would guarantee at least a playoff birth.
For the Rams, they own records of 20-13 and 13-7, respectively, and are locked into the No.4 seed, meaning these two squads could be facing off again next week.
Before the contests began today, the squad bid farewell to nine seniors -
Trevor Zanderzuk,
Ralph Musolino,
Justin Doskoez,
Myles Scarry,
Justin Lorenzo,
Alex Doskoez,
John Peteani,
Jemal Betances and student-coach, Joseph Ferrari.
The group had a prepared speech written by head coach
Adam Taraska read about them, as they were led on the field by friends and family. From there, the team gifted jerseys and other gifts to honor the legacy each player left behind.

Game One: Purchase 5, Farmingdale 4 (7 inn)
Following the ceremony, the Panthers quickly turned their attention to the matter at hand - the Rams.
While things started shaky in the first inning, Scarry (Levittown, NY) locked in on the mound and allowed just one run in the frame.
The Panther offense then did its part by knocking in three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The first two came from
Tyler Della Mura (SO/Rye Brook, NY) on an RBI-triple, while
Patrick Reyes (SO/Plainedge, NY) scored Della Mira on a groundout.
After a passed ball in the second allowed the Rams to trim the margin to 3-2,
Liam Daly (SO/Babylon, NY) extended the lead back to two runs in the third inning with a solo home run.
Three innings later, Della Mura blasted a solo homer of his own, as the Panthers now lead 5-2 heading into the seventh.
While the guests did manage to plate two runs in the frame, Scarry and the Purchase defense come up big when it needed it most, throwing out a runner at home for the second out.
In the end, the senior ace tossed a seven-inning complete game for the Blue and Orange, as he allowed four runs on seven hits. Scarry also fanned four in the effort.
Game Two: Farmingdale 7, Purchase 2
While the hosts raced out to a big lead in the opening game, the script flipped in the final contest as Farmingdale took charge early and ran from there.
The Rams scored once in the first, before two runs apiece in the third and fourth innings blew the game open. After another run in the fifth, the Panthers found themselves trailing 6-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
They did manage to plate a pair of runs though, as RBI-doubles from Reyes and
Joe Salerno (JR/White Plains, NY) scored the only runs of the matchup for Purchase.
In the end, the Blue and Orange tallied just four hits, while A. Doskoez (Easport, NY) was tagged with the loss on the mound. He went four innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on three hits.
Up next for the Panthers is the regular season finale, as they travel to face Yeshiva University tomorrow (5/5) in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.Â
