Panthers Thump Yeshiva, Punch Ticket to Skyline Playoffs

LEONIA, N.J. - The Purchase College baseball team cruised to a pair of wins Sunday evening, besting Yeshiva University to secure its spot in the Skyline Conference Playoffs.

The Panthers rolled by the Macs by the scores of 18-1 and 20-0, and in the process, closed out the regular season with records of 20-19 overall and 12-8 in the conference.

As a result, the squad clinched the No.5 seed in the playoffs beginning this week, as the Blue and Orange will now travel to Farmingdale State College on May 8th at 6 p.m. for a single-elimination contest.

Compared to the 2023 campaign, the Panthers recorded the exact same overall record, but increased their Skyline wins from 11 to 12 and their seeding in the playoffs from sixth to fifth.

Game One: Purchase 18, Yeshiva 1 (7 inn)

As for the contests Sunday night, Purchase jumped out to a leads early and never looked back. In the opening contest, the guests scored twice in the first inning and once again in the third to lead 3-1.

While the contest remained closed heading into the fifth, the Panthers blew the game wide open over the final innings, scoring five runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and seven in the seventh.

On the mound, Philip Dragovich (SO/New York, NY) went six innings in the win, allowing just one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

At the plate, the squad finished with 18 hits overall, as Liam Daly (SO/Babylon, NY) and Frank Rega (SO/West Islip, NY) each recorded three hits apiece.

Game Two: Purchase 20, Yeshiva 0 (7 inn)

The Panthers continued to role in game two, making even quicker work of the hosts this time around.

To begin, the Blue and Orange scored five runs in the first and four more in the second to take a commanding lead.

As the game rolled on, that margin eventually grew to 20-0 by the end of the seventh.

Overall, Purchase somehow produced even more hits, tallying 19 in the win.

Mason Compton (JR/Carmel, NY) led the way with four hits, while Daly, Myles Scarry (SR/Levittown, NY) and Tyler Della Mura (SO/Rye Brook, NY) each recorded three.

On the mound, Bryant Pena (JR/Queens, NY) collected the victory after three scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Up next for the Panthers are the Rams of Farmingdale State College. The two teams split a doubleheader yesterday at Purchase, but will be facing off in a winner-take-all matchup on Long Island this time around.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 8th.
